Eligibility - what do you need?

As a Government agency, we have a security clearance process for all new recruits. You will be eligible for appointment at FCO Services only if:

• You are a British citizen or hold dual nationality, and
• You have been a resident in the UK for at least two of the last 10 years.

Please note that these are the minimum requirements for initial consideration.

We also have to make security and other enquiries to ensure the suitability of candidates for employment.

Security Vetting

We need to be sure that all our people are reliable and trustworthy.

Everyone who works at FCO Services is, therefore, security cleared to the very highest level. When you join us you will have completed a comprehensive vetting process. This is vital to keep FCO Services secure. We call this the 'Developed Vetting' or 'DV' process. This takes, on average, about 3 months but can take up to 6 months according to the individual case. One of our Investigating Officers will meet you and conduct a detailed interview concerning your character, family history and personal circumstances. They may also interview your family members. During the vetting process much of the work goes on behind the scenes, so you may not hear very much from us during that time.

Vetting forms are not required when you first apply to FCO Services. Only those candidates who are selected for appointment will be asked to complete these forms; they will be sent to you at the appropriate time along with a useful guidance booklet – Security Vetting – Your Questions Answered. We are currently piloting a new ‘online’ Developed Vetting application system to improve speed of processing and maximize accuracy. However, until the pilot is completed, when completing paper-based forms you should ensure that the information you provide is clear, legible and complete. If you are in any doubt please ask us for guidance. The forms should be printed and signed in permanent black ink.

Please bring your completed forms to your FCO Services interview when advised.
